Brisbane’s passion for craft beer has come to a head in Clayfield where a new family-owned bottle shop plans to offer the biggest and best range of independently brewed beer this side of the river.
The team behind Brewski Bar in Petrie Terrace announced this week they planned to expand their takeaway bottle shop, My Beer Dealer, to include a large new space on Junction Rd by mid October.

Double the size means double the variety for beer and wine enthusiasts, who can look forward to a greater selection of ethically sourced wine, beer, spirits and “lifestyle” drinks such as spritzers and seltzers featuring low calories and low alcohol.
“We’re really amping it up,” said co-founder Antoinnette Pollock.
“We have a lot of people excited, and we’ve heard a lot of positive feedback.”
Ms Pollock said coronavirus restrictions on the bar’s seating capacity accelerated the team’s long-held plan to further their involvement in retail sales, which largely held the company afloat during the lockdown period.
My Beer Dealer is known for stocking a wide selection of national and international brands such as Garage Project, Brendale Brewing and Brick Lane Brewing, to name a few.
Manager Les Riddell is a Brisbane beer legend and adviser on the committee of The Beeries awards.
He shares some of the store’ most unusual offerings:
CHOCOLATE LAVA CAKE STOUT, Untitled Art
These beers come all the way from Waunakee, Wisconsin and are brewed with cacao nibs and milk sugar for a unique flavour experience.
THE S’MORES MAN, Wolf of the Willows
The unique offering features biscuit malts with s’mores inspired ingredients of real toasted marshmallows, vanilla bean and organic cocoa.
FIRE, SKULLS & MONEY, Goliath Brewing
Les says this one will be hard to find anywhere else. It’s an American IPA with aromas of citrus and pine resin with an assertive bitter finish.
PAVLOVA, Deeds Brewing
Staying true to the brand’s desire to innovate and create, they’ve presented a Sour Hazy Pastry Double IPA with Mango, Passionfruit, Milk Sugar and Vanilla. Thick and creamy, with layers of fruit atop a hazy base, Pavlova drinks like a true dessert in a can.
LAVENDER FIZZ, Break Side
The barrel-aged beer is inspired by the classic fizz cocktail. Originally made with gin, lemon, sugar, and soda water, it is the perfect choice for a hot Brisbane afternoon. The base beer for Lavender Fizz is a hybrid English summer ale and American pale ale, with a healthy dose of Citra and Cascade hops.
DUCHESSE DE BOURGOGNE, Brouwerij Verhaeghe-Vichte
“This is from a very small brewery and it’s very hard to find,” said Les, who claimed these two options as some of his favourites.
“It’s a wonder it even makes it outside of Belgium.”
FRESHIE SALT & PEPPER GOSE, Nomad
Aussie brewers Nomad capture the essence of the Northern Beaches in a glass by brewing a Gose with seawater straight from Freshwater Beach. They’ve paired it with a fairly faithful interpretation of the style, using pale and wheat malts, Willamette hops and a German ale yeast.
ADRIAEN BROUWER TRIPEL & OAKED, Brouwerij Roman
This brewery has existed since 1545 but is seldom seen on Australian shores. Both of these offerings are slightly sour ‘Oudenaards Bruin’ beers (brown beers from Oudenaarde) brewed with the mineral-rich spring water procured from the Flemish Ardennes. They also boast ingredients such as coriander, Curaçao and organic Belgian hops.
CUVEE DU JONGLEUR & ROSE CITY SOUR, Cascade Brewing
Not to be confused with the Aussie brewery of the same name, these beers come all the way from Oregon in the US. The Rose City Sour features barrel aged wheat and blond ales with rose petals, rose hips and hibiscus tea, while the Cuvee du Jongleur hasn’t appeared on shelves for over a decade. It consists of select red, triple and quad sour ales aged in oak barrels for up to three years.
SWEET LIBERTY, The Bruery
“This has characteristics of an imperial stout, so its rich and full-bodied, with pronounced flavours of coconut and pineapple,” said Les. The brewery claims it’s like a pina colada for beer lovers.
