A Petrie teacher with a passion for early education has been voted the North Lakes and Northside area’s best educator by North Lakes News subscribers.
Year 2 teacher Aymie Vitale, from Petrie State School, said she was quite shocked to after receiving the recognition following her eight year career in education.
“I’m so thankful for everyone who voted for me, especially the families and students who nominated me,” she said.
Mrs Vitale started by teaching prep at Petrie for about five years before she went on maternity leave to have a baby.
She returned to teach Year 2 part-time this year and was able to reunite with some of her former students.
“That was really special because I actually got to teach some of the kids that I had taught before I went on maternity leave,” she said.
“Prep is really special because they come to school not knowing much and they’re new to reading and writing so that’s all you, you’ve taught them that.
“But Year 2 is really nice too because they have skills already but you’re fine tuning it and they’ve got more personality coming out and they’re more confident.”
Mrs Vitale said the most important thing for her was building relationships with the kids in her classroom and their parents.
“I feel like once you’ve got that, the rest comes naturally,” she said.
