First announced in 2017, North Lakes’ smart parking system will come into effect in January, according to Moreton Bay Regional Council councillor Julie Greer.

Cr Greer confirmed the start date in answer to a resident’s social media post this week.
The hi-tech project will attempt to improve access to parking along The Corso, Linkfield Drive and Little Burke St.
The news comes as a $900,000 trial of the system concluded which involved installing sensors in the pavement, as well as cameras that are linked to an app.
The app will let users know where to find available parking spaces, out of the 358 to be monitored along the route.
Council said Telstra and its partner Smart Parking Limited installed the system which won’t charge for parking but let users know via the app when their parking is nearly up.

The RACQ said it supported innovative ways for motorists to have a more efficient driving experience.
“Driving around looking for a park can create added congestion so we’d expect an app like this would benefit motorists,” a spokeswoman said.
