Having played state indoor hockey since Under 13 the striker impressed selectors at the Under 18 State Indoor Championships for women, held in South Brisbane last month.

“The Under 18 tournament went well, having won all games and beating Maryborough in the grand final, a team we also beat in the Queensland outdoor Under 18 grand final earlier this year,” Turner said.

“Our game was a draw at the end of game time, so we went into shootouts where I was the first of three girls to take the penalty.

“I scored the goal and we won 2-1.”

The surging Brisbane 1 player said she doesn’t mind making the opposition sweat.

“I am a striker and enjoy playing a fast, aggressive game, putting defenders under pressure and making quick plays,” she said.

“And I am a team player who will always get back for my teammates and put my body on the line.”

Turner’s Under 18 State Indoor Coach Lyn Tucker had high compliments for her player.

“Imogen is a player with great enthusiasm, and passion for each game she plays and is an asset to her team.

“Her strength is on the ball and her speed off the mark gives her an advantage over other players in her age group when playing indoor hockey.

“And her never-say-die attitude on court is a real asset as well.

“I will enjoy coaching Imogen at our state trainings and also when we will be away playing at the nationals in January 2020.

“Imogen is a great listener and brings to the team the ability to adapt to all team plays and change of structure or plays that can be made during a game.”

Turner will next compete at the 2020 Australian Indoor Championships, to be held in Goulburn, NSW in January next year.
