All Stars rack up string of golds and silvers at nation’s toughest competition

A Pine Rivers boxing gym has landed heavy blows against the country’s best in the Gold Coast.

ALL Star Boxing Academy has once more lived up to its name.

The oft awarded gym at Pine Rivers PCYC walked away with a host of gold and silver medals at the Under 19 National Championships at the Gold Coast.

“We are very proud of them; it is a good result,” gym owner Ben Harrington said.

“There is no more challenging a competition in the country that you can win so you are fighting the best of the best.”

Jye Dixon (36kg), Aaron Grealey (48kg), Austin Crossland (57kg) and Levi Langham (70kg) won gold, while Charlotte Rafferty (50kg) and Tia Barney (54kg) were awarded silver medals.

Vegas Larfield (52kg) and Neo Deleon (52kg) both came up “just short” in their semi finals in the youth division. Larfield gained further distinguishment being named captain for Queensland.

Harrington put the gym’s continued success down to careful preparation.

“Preparation included the state titles and we are fortunate to have a lot of competitions in Queensland,” he said.

“We have very complete sparring in the gym and so that preparation was great.

“And everybody peaked at the right time.”

The gym owner said All Star Boxing also put in a sterling performance at their annual home tournament.

The gym fought in 16 of 48 matches, with 13 wins and three losses.

The success comes as another All Star standout, Liam Wilson (4-0), makes ready for a bought against Commonwealth-level fighter Amandeep Singh (4-0) in Sydney on Saturday.

“Liam is looking the best he has ever looked,” said Harrington.

“He is super skilful and really looking forward to the tournament.”
