REGULAR diners at Preece’s at the Jetty agree the food is as good as the view.

The building, which is home to the cafe, restaurant and wine bar, is rich in history and has been a favourite spot for locals and visitors since 1932.

These days, it’s a modern space that makes the most of some of the best views of Redcliffe, overlooking the jetty.

The menu draws its inspiration from its seaside location, with seafood featuring as well as specialities pizza and pasta.

The family business is owned by brothers Michael and Grant, along with sister Sandy and sister-in-law Chris.

Grant says they were drawn to the location about seven years ago, renaming it Preece’s at the Jetty when they expanded more than three years ago.

“Because we’re a family we decided to put our name on the door,” he recalls.

Michael has been a chef for about 40 years and Grant had worked in fast food for about 20 years before they took on the business.

“Everything is made here. My brother has been a chef forever so he’s old fashioned — we crumb our own schnitzels and make our own sauces,” Grant says.

He says their vanilla slice is second to none. “People say it’s the best in the world.”

“I like our coffee. We’re pretty famous for our coffee ... we serve Brisbane-based Merlo coffee which is popular with cyclists and runners.” But the venue serves much more than just coffee and cake, offering a tempting menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

“Eggs Benedict is popular with customers — the hollandaise sauce is made fresh on-site every day and the eggs are perfectly poached,” Grant says.
