Clean, clear and crisp — this beer has been crafted to mirror the ocean as it should be, and profits from its sale will aid projects with that goal in mind.
It’s the brainchild of White Brick Brewing’s Adam Gibb and Australian Coastal and Marine Ecology director Mat Davis, who came up with the concept at an Innovate Moreton Bay event a few months ago. The beer is aptly called Ocean.
Adam says he has tried to create a brew that represents the ocean, with a refreshing taste that gives you that relaxed vibe when you take that first sip.
“It’s like you’re smelling the sea air, and are at one with nature when you drink it,” he says.
Mat agrees saying he can imagine sipping the beer, playing some beach cricket and feeling the ocean breeze on his face.
The limited edition beer will be available at the Moreton Bay Food + Wine Festival in the Craft Brews by the Bay precinct at Charlish Park, at The Belvedere Hotel and Scarborough’s Showcase Beers.
Adam says he will produce 8-10 kegs and about 60 cartons of the beer and will sell it at cost. He’d like to see it sold in Karma Keg fashion, where customers pay an amount they’d like to donate to the cause for each drink.
Mat says proceeds will be used to fund projects in the region to benefit local waterways, oceans and coastal areas.
These could be clean-ups or education programs.
“I’m happy to be part of it. I think that something like this is so important,” Adam says.
“If you don’t contribute to your community, you shouldn’t be in it. It’s part of being a responsible business.”
Mat says Australian Coastal and Marine Ecology brings people and organisations together to make a difference and this collaboration is an example of that.
“It all started with, ‘hey, we should do a beer’,” he says.
