ENJOYING a meal at North Lakes Hotel’s Boardwalk Restaurant is about much more than the cuisine.

The venue’s location, overlooking Lake Eden adds its own magic.

“It feels like you’re sitting on a boat in North Lakes. It’s very calming and relaxing,” business development manager Chrisna Kraaij explains.

The hotel, which opened in April 2018, makes the most of its location with ceiling to floor windows allowing diners to take in the view while enjoying breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Chrisna says head chef Jerome Hangan and his team have created a menu packed with high quality, affordable meals for families.

It’s a seasonal menu, with some winter warmers this time of year including curries.

There are daily specials for $14.50, including rump steak on Mondays, pasta on Tuesdays and curries on Wednesday.

“We offer decent portions at an affordable price,” Chrisna says.

Jerome has worked in the industry for almost 30 years, in Australia and overseas including Papua New Guinea and Madagascar.

He joined the Boardwalk Restaurant team about six months ago and describes the cuisine as quality bistro-style meals people can relate to, which are affordable and different.

The team makes everything they can from scratch. The two biggest sellers are the karaage chicken and zucchini and haloumi fritters.

So, what does Jerome love about cooking?

“The expression, the artistry of it. People sell paintings for thousands and we put it on a plate for a few dollars,” he says.

Diners love the black angus rib fillet and rump steaks, which he gets from Toowoomba.

The restaurant caters for hotel guests, corporate events and functions, and locals looking for a family-friendly venue to enjoy a night out.

There’s even been a couple of wedding proposals, with one couple returning to the venue for the big event.

The hotel has nine function spaces throughout and a children’s play area.

“We pride ourselves on being really flexible,” Chrisna says.
