Warm up your green thumbs and head along to the Redcliffe Garden and Lifestyle Expo. You’ll get expert tips and have plenty of fun. Oh, and gardening guru Costa will be there!

REDCLIFFE Botanic Gardens will be transformed into a horticultural haven, inspiring, educating and motivating the region’s garden lovers for one big day.

If this sounds like something you’d like to get your green thumbs into, head along to Redcliffe Garden and Lifestyle Expo, which will be held on July 28.

Moreton Bay Region Industry & Tourism chief executive Shane Newcombe says after a successful inaugural year in 2018, this year’s event will be even better.

“You can expect a full day of demonstrations and workshops from some of Australia’s leading gardening experts,” he says.

“We’re delighted to have Golden Logie-nominee Costa Georgiadis join the speaker line-up to share his depth of knowledge with the crowd.”

A number of local gardening gurus and industry experts from the Moreton Bay Region will also share tips across two stages, the Kindred Gardening Stage and Ballycara Lifestyle Stage. And a team of gardening specialists will provide free personalised advice for gardeners with specific questions.

Council spokesperson for tourism, Councillor Peter Flannery, says it’s a coup to attract celebrity gardening guru Costa Georgiadis to the Redcliffe event.

“Wherever Costa goes, he’s sure to draw a crowd. His passion for gardening has really grown among our youth and it’s exciting to see them learning new skills and getting their hands dirty in the garden,” Cr Flannery says.

“Last year, we were the first council in South East Queensland to ban the use of single-use plastic straws at council-operated venues and events.

“We are continuing that legacy this year through the installation of water refill stations across the region in partnership with UnityWater, from Caboolture Region Environmental Education Centre to Burpengary, Pumicestone Lions Park, Bongaree, Scarborough Beach, Scarborough, Lake Eden Park, North Lakes and Woody Point Jetty, Woody Point.

“We hope the steps we are taking now will inspire others and challenge them to think outside the sustainability box.”

Councillor Koliana Winchester (Div 6) says she hopes many who attend the event will be inspired and motivated to create their own sustainable green space. “It’s fantastic to live in a region where so many children are thinking about the future and have adopted sustainable practices,” she says.

“From minimising printer usage, colour-coding bins, improving awareness about hazardous waste items, reducing food waste, reusing paper and bottles, students are teaching us how simple measures can make a difference to our environment.

“Gardening is also a fantastic way to keep kids entertained outdoors away from the screens.”

Visitors to the Redcliffe Garden and Lifestyle Expo will also be able to browse lifestyle markets, enjoy a bite to eat in the food court, view pop-up gardening displays and join in yoga and meditation classes. The Garden Bar will pour craft beers and wines sure to keep your palate happy.

The little ones will not be left out, with the dedicated Sesame Lane Little Grubs Kids Zone, which will be filled with free face painting and sustainable crafts, activities and workshops.

If that isn’t enough, you will also be able to pick yourself up a free native plant grown in the Pine Rivers Community Nursery at Kumbartcho Sanctuary.

“We’re very excited to be offering a brand-new workshop to the Redcliffe Garden and Lifestyle Expo program this year. Two Paint & Sip sessions will be introduced and will need to be pre-booked,” Mr Newcombe says.

You can enter the event for a gold coin donation, and free parking is available at Redcliffe Showgrounds with a courtesy shuttle bus operating from 9am-3pm.

Redcliffe Garden and Lifestyle Expo is presented by Moreton Bay Region Industry & Tourism and supported by strategic partner Moreton Bay Regional Council.
