What happens when you are charged with a crime?

A Moreton teen and three others conducted a terrifying night-time raid on a property in which a man was punched repeatedly in the face and sliced twice with a kitchen knife.

Morayfield’s Zacary Levi Hassum, 19, pleaded guilty in Brisbane District Court on Friday to four counts stemming from the February 18, 2021 incident.

They included two counts of unlawful wounding and one each of aggravated burglary and assault occasioning bodily harm.

The offences occurred about 8pm at the Deception Bay home of a woman with whom Hassum had an on-off relationship, which ended some weeks before the incident.

A friend of Hassum’s former partner was visiting at the Deception Bay house at the time.

When Hassum’s ex-partner answered a knock at the door to find three women, Hassum ran inside and demanded of the visiting friend, “Who are you, who are you?”, the court heard.

Hassum then punched the male victim repeatedly in the face.

He produced a kitchen knife which he used to inflict a deep laceration on the man’s leg.

He began “swinging the knife backwards and forwards”, inflicting a 10cm cut to the man’s arm.

Since being charged Hassum has continued offending.

The court heard he had breached bail twice and unlawfully used a vehicle, for which he was placed on 15 months’ probation.

The court heard Hassum was addicted to methamphetamine and Xanax at the time of the offending and was so drug-affected he could not remember the incident.

Defence counsel Tracey Thorp told the court Hassum conceded he “hadn’t done much” with his life to this point.

However, she noted he had enrolled himself in employment programs with the aim of securing full-time work.

He is currently a casual stonemason.

Hassum was sentenced to 30 months’ imprisonment with immediate parole.
