Two councillors run unopposed in Moreton Bay Council election, look ahead to fresh start

The class of 2020-2024 is already taking shape with two candidates running unopposed in their divisions.

Cr Denise Sims Division 7 and Cr Matt Constance Division 10 have been re-elected to council after running unopposed in their divisions.

MORETON BAY’s two confirmed councillors for the 2020-2024 term are already looking ahead to a fresh start and rebuilding trust between the council and community.

Denise Sims (Div 7) and Matt Constance (Div 11) will both run unopposed in their divisions and therefore will regain their seats in the next term of council.

“I’m absolutely honoured to represent Division 7 and there’s 10,000 new residents (with the boundary changes) that I will get to know so I’m looking forward meeting them as well,” Cr Sims said.

“I’ll just continue the work that I’ve started which is actually rejuvenating the Kallangur town centre and having some community consultation around that.

“Obviously my claim to fame which is upgrading or installing 23 new parks and I’ll continue to do those across the division so our community can enjoy their recreation space and time together.

“As far as the new council goes, I’m looking forward to being a part of a new culture.

“I think it’s time for us to really look forward and as a female I look forward to the diversity that brings to the council.”

Cr Constance, who will return as Division 10 councillor, said it was humbling to be on council for a second term.

“I think, as a number of people have said, it’s a testament to our hard work in our communities over the past four years and in the council to drive a lot of the reform that we’ve seen,” he said.

“We’re both committed to seeing those reforms come through and to keep working hard and deliver for our communities.”
