Tallulah Civoniceva will spend her summer school holidays training with not one – but two state softball teams.

The 15-year-old Redcliffe State High School student has been selected in the Queensland Under 16s and Under-18s women’s softball teams.

“I was surprised because I thought I’d only be able to play with my age group,” Tallulah said.

The 16 girl’s team will compete at the 2020 national championships in Victoria from January 4-10.

Tallulah will then have a week off before competing at the nationals with the under-18 team in New South Wales from January 19-25.

It is not the first time Tallulah has played at a representative level. Twice this year she travelled internationally, representing Australia and Queensland in tournaments in America and Japan.

It has taken a lot of hard work to get to this point. She also stopped playing rugby league in order to focus on softball.

“I started playing softball in school and I made the Sunshine Coast representative team and then the Queensland under-12 team,” Tallulah said.

From there she started club softball and was also selected to play in the Redcliffe representative team.

Tallulah, the oldest daughter of Redcliffe rugby league legend Petero Civoniceva, trains two times a week for Queensland, once a week with her club team and has games on Friday and Saturday.

She plays first and third base player and is also rather handy with the bat.

Softball has been reintroduced to the 2020 Olympics after a 12 year hiatus.

One of Tallulah’s teachers, Chelsea Forkin is in the Australian team, due to compete in Tokyo next year.

Tallulah said making the Olympics was “the biggest goal”.

But said she had a few others goals to achieve before getting there.
