AN INTERNATIONALLY recognised tech company that “grew out of a garage” will be at the heart of a new retail and office building in Brisbane.

Business software developer Fathom Applications started out 10 years ago from their garage in Everton Park and has since grown to have offices in the US and the UK.

The company has confirmed it will lease two storeys of a proposed office and retail building on South Pine Road, which will become the next stage in the revitalisation of Everton Plaza.

While the proposal still has to be approved by the council, a spokesman for Everton Plaza said it was an exciting opportunity to provide a state of the art facility worthy of a successful local business.

“Their story is not dissimilar to the Apple start-up — Fathom started out 10 years ago in their garage, in Everton Hills, grew and expanded internationally, and true to their roots, they will soon have a new home at Everton Plaza,” the spokesman said.

“The development is incredibly exciting for the local area. It will have three levels of offices — two of which have already been leased to Fathom.

“There will be new retail shops on the ground level and there has been a great amount of interest from other potential tenants already.

“We’re excited to breathe new life into this side of the development and activate that side of the main arterial road.”

The spokesman said that if approved, the development would create new job opportunities.

“More serviced-based retail, and another level of office space will really help the local area,” he said.

“It’s very exciting for the Everton Park community.”

The proposal is the second stage of a revitalisation in Everton Plaza.

The first stage was the construction of Parklane — a new food and drink hub — as well as a facelift to Coles and the health and wellness precinct on Stafford Rd.

If approved, the new building would have basement parking with 27 spaces with access from the driveways on Sizer St, Cutbush Rd and Stafford Rd.

The planning report for the development stated it would not significantly increase the traffic demand on or off the site.

Fatham Applications created Fathom, a reporting and financial analysis tool which helps businesses assess their performance, monitor trends and identify improvement opportunities.
