A NEW barge to Moreton Island has been approved by the State Government, but the local man behind the push to reinstate the barge from Scarborough has missed out.

Minister for National Parks, Recreation, Sport and Racing (NPRSR) Steve Dickson announced Bhagwan Marine, based in Western Australia, was selected via expression of interest.

Chris Bale, the Redcliffe businessman pushing to reinstate the barge from Scarborough was unsuccessful.

Bhagwan Marine has “in-principle” support to land at Bulwer six days a week.

The company is yet to discuss departure points with NPRSR, Moreton Bay Regional Council and the Department of Transport and Main Roads. There was no guarantee from the State Government that the new service would leave from Scarborough but the expression of interest was “to conduct a vehicle, freight and passenger barge service from the Redcliffe Peninsula to beach landing areas at Bulwer and The Wrecks at Bulwer on Moreton Island”.
