STARTING this week, living rooms and dining room tables will be transformed into classrooms with students learning from home to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Sisters Ever and Lolly Cunningham have embraced the challenge and said they will learn better from home than in a classroom.

Ever 11, is in Year 6 at Mueller College Rothwell, north of Brisbane. Her younger sister Lolly, 9, is in Year 4.

“I’m excited to go at my own pace so I don’t have to wait for the rest of the class to finish,” Ever said.

“But I will miss my friends of course and being in the classroom around other people and my teacher, I miss her.”

The Year 6 pupil was concerned how her favourite subjects of science and sport would be delivered via an iPad.

“They might be able to do it – it will be a surprise,” Ever said.

Lolly said she would “kind of” miss school.

“I miss seeing all my friends in person. We are still keeping in touch. I have a lot of their phone numbers and we have been zooming with them,” she said.

“I feel like I am going to be much better (at learning) because there will be less distractions at home and a lot calmer.”

WHAT TO EXPECT AS SCHOOL RETURNS AMID COVID-19

Mum, Anna Cunningham, who lives at Mango Hill, said she was confident the school and teachers would be able to provide an “amazing learning opportunity” for her daughters.

“The school has provided a suggested schedule but said they are happy if we make it work for us,” Ms Cunningham said.

“Over the last few weeks we have tried to keep in a bit of a routine, we will keep doing that.

“But I am aware it might have to be flexible, they will both learn differently.”
