‘I thought you’d like it’: A Moreton Bay man has been jailed for sexually assaulting a woman twice in her own home.

A Moreton Bay grub approached a woman from behind in her own home and groped her breasts and crotch, a court has heard, with the woman shocked to find the man with his hands on her was not her boyfriend.

Caboolture man Shaun Phillip Platts, 57, pleaded guilty in Brisbane District Court to two counts of sexual assault.

Both offences occurred at an address in Caboolture on May 16 last year.

The court heard the assaults occurred late in the evening as Platts’ victim was at her sink having a drink of water.

Platts approached her from behind, wrapped his arms around her and grabbed her left breast.

He then placed his hand inside her underwear and rubbed the outside of her vagina.

The woman turned around and, realising it was not her partner performing the acts, pushed Platts with both hands and then told him what he did was “really f***** up”, to which Platts replied, “I thought you’d like it”.

The following day, Platts’ victim requested a friend over, at which point she disclosed the previous night’s assault.

The woman’s boyfriend and friend then proceeded to seek Platts out and bashed him, stomping on his head, punching him and beating him with a curtain rod, telling him he was a “dirty old man”.

Platts was hospitalised and required five stitches, the court heard.

Platts had no previous criminal history for sexual offending, although he had been before the Magistrates Court no fewer than 32 times, mainly for drug and property offending, including twice this year at Caboolture.

Defence counsel Tom Polley told the court his client was on methamphetamine at the time of his offending and expressed remorse.

He said his client had severe health issues and received a pension following an accident aged 36 which saw him hospitalised for seven months after being struck by a train.

Platts was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for an operational period of two years.
