A SCHOOL north of Brisbane went the extra mile this morning to ensure a special return to campus for its Year 12 students.
Staff at Bray Park State High School held a guard of honour at the school’s entrance welcome its Year 12s back to school after disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Students in Prep, Year 1, 11 and 12 were allowed to return to school today for the first time in over a month as restrictions begin to ease across Queensland.
“The Year 12s have been away for six weeks and so we wanted to welcome them back and treat them a bit special,” principal Peter Turner said.
“It’s still Year 12, still a special year, but with the all the challenges posed by COVID-19 and we want to make it an extra special year for them.”
The studies authority has dropped one piece of assessment across all ATAR subjects to take some of the pressure of senior students.
“They’ve been working extremely well at home. The teachers have said they are handling the challenge really well,” Mr Turner said.
The school’s Year 11 students have not been idle either, creating a program to help reduce social isolation for residents of the nearby Wesley Mission Queensland’s Anam Cara community.
The school has provided the centre with 15 ipads which residents use to chat to the students and their families.
“They’ve shown, through true adversity, new ways of doing great things to keep the community connected. I’m really proud of them,” Mr Turner said.
