A woman’s kind act towards a stranger on her morning walk with her dog took a heartbreaking turn which left her beloved pet dead.

Scarborough resident, Wendy Clegg, was walking her dog, Ruby, along the suburb’s foreshore on May 30, when two dogs set upon her small dog as she offered a poo bag to another pet owner.

Ruby was killed after she was attacked by dogs on her morning walk.

After the attack, Ms Clegg warned other residents who take their dogs out for a walk around the bayside suburb.

“Our beautiful little dog was mauled this morning on our walk at Scarborough.

“She passed away. Please be mindful if you are out walking your beloved furry friends our hearts are broken,” Ms Clegg posted on Facebook.

“We were just doing our normal walk, when two men and their dogs ahead of us had pooped, I offered a bag as they didn’t have one, before I finished my sentence his dog had Ruby round her middle shaking her.”

Ms Clegg said she could barely sleep at night due to the trauma of seeing her lifelong pet die in front of her.

“I can’t sleep, I can’t close my eyes, I can’t even blink, I see it all again,” she said.

“Little Ruby held on until my husband could see her but her injuries were too serious and we made that heart reaching decision to say goodbye.”

She also said she was grateful to a bystander who stepped in to console her during the ordeal.

Ms Clegg said she and her husband lived close by to where Ruby was mauled and said it would be hard to walk past the spot every morning.

“My husband and I visited the spot Monday afternoon, cried and said our goodbyes, again,” she said.

Hundreds of Scarborough residents showed their support for the couple sharing their condolences on social media.

“I am so so sorry for your loss Wendy. For you and your dear pup to have to experience that, it’s just awful. I’m sorry,” Annaliese Cartersaid.

“My heart breaks for Wendy and her fur baby. I live across from a dog park and won't walk my little one’s anymore,” Shirley Teelah Glover said.
