THE $37.5 million project to transform a busy southeast Queensland roundabout into a signalised intersection is due to be completed by November.
The Rothwell intersection, which links Redcliffe, Deception Bay and Mango Hill via Anzac Ave and Deception Bay Road, has been a headache for motorists for years.
The last major traffic switch is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, with the traffic lights expected to be turned on the week after.
The traffic switch will allow for the existing roundabout to be removed. It will be in place for two weeks.
During this work a detour, directing motorists away from the intersection through Warbrick Way and Stubbins St will be in place from 6.30pm-6.30am.
Traffic conditions during the day will not be affected.
Acting state main roads and road safety minister Steven Miles said: “This will be the first time motorists will be driving on the final alignment in each direction and with operational traffic signals, which is exciting news for motorists who use the intersection each day.”
The project was jointly funded by Moreton Bay Regional Council, the Federal Government and the State Government.
State Labor MP for Murrumba Chris Whiting said he was pleased that access to McGahey St would be reinstated after an earlier decision to close the street off to the intersection.
“Retaining McGahey St access following community feedback is a real win for local residents and businesses in the area,” Mr Whiting said.
