A Deception Bay man has faced Redcliffe Magistrates Court over charges linked to major police drug busts earlier this year.

Ricki Jon Harris’s property was raided as part of Operation Uniform Hedgehog — a six-month investigation targeting the trafficking of dangerous drugs in the Moreton Police District.

Redcliffe police charged 23 people with more than 100 offences before the close of the operation.

Harris’s charges include three counts of possessing a dangerous drug, possession of drug utensils, three weapons related offences and possession of property believed to be from the proceeds of a drug offence.

Harris’s Lawyer, Ms Young, told the court that Harris, 39, was using dangerous drugs as a substitute for his ADHD medication but Magistrate Paul Byrne was not convinced.

“Some of the excuses you’ve given me in relation to the drug matters would insult the intelligence of a smart labrador,” Mr Byrne told Harris.

The court heard that Harris had more than 80 convictions before his most recent charges.

“With your previous (convictions), if you told me it was raining outside I’d get a second opinion,” Mr Byrne said.

“But, in this rainy weather you have encountered a rainbow in that (police prosecutor) Kristine Bambrick has supported your lawyer in a suspended sentence”.

He sentenced Harris to a 12 month jail term, to be suspended.
