IF residents of this bayside suburb get their way there could soon be an inflatable water park less than an hour from Brisbane.

Redcliffe residents were asked to share their thoughts on the future of the Peninsula’s foreshores as part of Moreton Bay Regional Council’s new Redcliffe Foreshore Management Plan.

The results from the first consultation period have been released and the No. 1 item most people wanted was an inflatable water park.

Moreton Bay Regional Council announced its plans to form a management plan for the region’s foreshores late last year. Mayor Allan Sutherland said the plan was needed to manage the increasing number of requests from operators and to ensure the foreshore remained a major attraction.

A total of 619 people filled out the online survey during the first round of consultation, 62 others submitted email submissions and 198 people shared “post-it-note comments” at the public displays.

The survey results had been broken down to show what people wanted to see more of in each of the nine foreshore precincts.

An inflatable water park came out on top in six of the nine precincts. Retail containers, food vans and water sports topped the list in the remaining three locations.

Residents also wanted more dog friendly beaches, improved pedestrian safety, movie nights, more shaded seating and a ferry to Moreton Island.

Concerns were raised about the lack of parking at some of the foreshore areas and the impact on local businesses.

The second round of consultation is open until June 1. Read the full report and have your say on the Moreton Bay Regional Council website.
