RESIDENTS can have their say on plans to install two sets of traffic lights on a busy road near a school and a tip.

Detailed design works are under way for a $15.58 million upgrade of Old Gympie Rd between Alma and Goodwin roads in Dakabin.

It includes two new sets of traffic lights at Hughes Road East and Goodwin Rd intersections, each with separate left and right turning lanes as well as signalised pedestrian crossings.

There will also be new on-road cycle lanes, better footpaths, upgraded stormwater drainage and improved landscaping.

Service relocations and early works are scheduled for next year with the main construction starting in the 2021/22 financial year.

The lights would also service new housing developments being established along Hughes Rd East.

Moreton Bay Council is holding a community information session on the project this Saturday, noon-3pm, at the Watson Park Assembly Hall, 337 Old Gympie Road, Dakabin.

Attendees can view and provide feedback on the concept plan for the project.

Council officers and Cr Denise Sims will be available to answer any questions on the proposal.

This project is part of a staged suite of Old Gympie Road upgrades between Anzac Ave and Boundary Rd, costing about $86 million and which are currently scheduled to occur over the next 8-10 years.
