REDCLIFFE State High School was put into lockdown this afternoon, with some parents saying it was due to students bringing knives to school but the school says no weapons were involved.

Parents, via social media, said they had been told by their children and students at the school it was in relation to students being found with knives and threats of a fight.

One parent posted on Facebook: “Apparently there was a fight this morning. Knives were pulled. Knives are around school at moment and trying to find knives. Lockdown until they are found. I have a yr 10 student here (at home) and she’s messaging students the kids at school now. Apparently threats of a fight this afternoon.”

Another commented she had received an email stating “no weapons were used”.

Redcliffe State High School published a post to Facebook at about 12.30pm.

It read: “Our School has just lifted a lockdown, which we imposed to ensure the safety of our students and staff. The matter has been resolved, all students and staff are safe. Compass will provide more details for parents.”

In a further email sent to parents Principal Shona McKinlay said no weapons were used.

“Our school has just lifted a lockdown which we imposed to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

“The lockdown was a result of an incident which initially involved two Year 11 students.

“Facebook posts have stated the incident, with the Year 11 students, involved the use of weapons. This is definitely not the case.

“Parents and students can be reassured that the situation was immediately dealt with and investigated by our school-based police officer and staff.

“The safety of all students and staff was at the forefront of all actions.

“Parents of the students involved in this incident have been notified and support will be provided to those students who need it.”

A spokesman from the Department of Education said the precautionary lockdown took place at 11.20am.

“The safety and welfare of students and staff is the highest priority for the Department of Education,” he said.

“Redcliffe State High School went into a precautionary lockdown today at 11.20am in response to a behaviour incident involving two students.

“The Queensland Police Service was contacted immediately and attended to investigate.

“Based on police advice the lockdown lifted approximately one hour later with classes resuming as normal.

“Parents and Carers were informed of the situation via the school Facebook page and letter home.

“Support will be available for any students or staff as required.”

A Queensland Police spokesman said the matter was yet to be reported to them.

It was the second serious incident on a southeast Queensland school campus in two days, with Brisbane’s Kelvin Grove State College going into lockdown yesterday after social media threats and reports of an intruder on the school’s grounds.
