Redcliffe restaurant Golden Ox at Margate closed due to death of owner

A Redcliffe institution of nearly 46 years has suddenly closed its doors after one of its owners died, leaving the community in shock and weddings and functions in limbo.

Long considered one of southeast Queensland’s top restaurants, the Golden Ox at Margate has been forced to close its doors.

The Golden Ox posted on its Facebook page that it had temporarily closed after one of the owners passed away.

The restaurant and wedding venue had been run for more than four decades by Nick Tzimas and his family but they put it up for sale last year. It was believed to have sold before Christmas and Mr Tzimas retired, however he was unable to be contacted at time of publication.

The restaurant was contacted but declined to comment.

Company records showed the Tzimas family’s business, Vlaherina Pty Ltd, was deregistered with no liabilities on May 28 this year.

“Guys, sadly one of the owners has passed away,’’ a post on the Golden Ox Facebook page said.

“So for the meantime we have had no choice but to close.

“We would like to advise that all who have booked and paid deposits for functions will be contacted as soon as possible.

“Everyone with weddings booked, we are terribly sorry and we will be in touch with you all throughout the week.”
