Redcliffe Leagues Club is ready to open as soon as COVID-19 restrictions are lifted but there will be a number of new protocols in place.

The Leagues Club, at Kippa-Ring, was forced to close its doors on March 23 – along with every other pub and club in Australia in a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus.

More than 200 staff from the Leagues Club, gym and health centres were left without a job.

Redcliffe Leagues Club CEO Tony Murphy said “of course we will bounce back”.

“On the first day back, whenever it is, we will be at the front door welcoming our members and guests.”

Redcliffe Leagues Club general manager Justin Charlish said many people had been working hard behind the scenes during the closure to make sure that could happen.

Mr Charlish said the aim was to ensure Dolphins evolved and came out “the other side stronger”.

He said this would not be possible without community support.

“Dolphins is a community club that has always worked towards assisting the community in each and every way but now more than ever we will need the community to support Dolphins by coming back and saying hi, becoming members, purchasing a meal or just joining a family member for a coffee and enjoying a relaxed atmosphere,” Mr Charlish said.

He said the team had used the shutdown time to get a firm hold on the club's financial position and to set up the 200 plus staff with jobseeker and job keeper were possible.

“The industry has certainly pulled together and assisted each other in so many ways and it’s extremely encouraging as we look forward to opening the doors at Dolphins once again,” Mr Charlish said.

Staff members were also offered the opportunity to upskill with further industry education.

They have also completed COVID-19 infection control training.

“Once clubs are given the go ahead Dolphins like all of the clubs will follow the guidelines set out by State Government but we will also be putting additional items in place to make the community feel comfortable and confident that they can once again enjoy all Dolphins facilities in a comfortable and relaxed manner,” Mr Charlish said.

These measures include touch free sanitising units, spacing tables and chairs at least 1.5m apart and introducing a team dedicated to sanitising all communal areas.

There will be new electronic sign-in devices and headcounts will be done ever 30 minutes to ensure there are not too many patrons in any one area of the club.

“Dolphins will also be encouraging members to download the Government Tracing App as this will help people who may come in contact with infected people within the community,” Mr Charlish said.

He said the team was very excited to get back to work.

“The feel from staff is that the community have had enough of the negativity around COVID-19 and want to create some fun and playful theming to allow members to walk into Dolphins and be the home away from home with positive vibes and happy thoughts,” Mr Charlish said.
