Executive Chairman Laurence Lancini said servicing the current and future needs of the Burpengary East community was at the forefront of the proposed Burpengary East Shopping Centre development.

“As growth occurs in Burpengary East, we believe a well-located Local Centre Precinct, with locals being able to do their weekly shop as part of their usual transit routes, or more particularly, without having to engage with the M1 at all, will be beneficial to many families,” he said.

We also believe in leading the way to ensure that retail services are really well located for the long term, so they do not encroach into more residential areas later.

“We love becoming a part of the communities where our centres are located and the development of Burpengary East Shopping Centre will be no different.

“Ensuring we create something with the long term in mind is very important to us.

“We are excited to embark on this project to deliver a vibrant and convenient shopping experience for the people of Burpengary East and the surrounding suburbs now and in the future.”

Construction is expected to start in 2024 and is expected to provide up to 260 jobs during construction and upon project completion.

Moreton Bay Regional Councillor Mark Booth said he acknowledged some residents of Burpengary East may be excited by the proposed development, while others may not be.

“My role as your councillor has always been and will continue to be to acting in the best long term interests of the region when voting on any council decision, be that development or otherwise,” he said.

“I know this application may raise some robust commentary from the Burpengary East community.”

The division two representative said he would give the community as much information as he was legally allowed during the process.

“This particular site and surrounding properties at the corner of Uhlmann and Buckley Road is currently zoned as rural residential / community activities and neighbourhood hubs,” he said.

“Which under the current planning scheme allows small scale centres and community activities.

“It also recognises their importance in terms of forming the heart of communities and walkable neighbourhoods.”
