Queensland man Christopher Puglia to stand trial over parents’ brutal deaths

A Queensland man accused of killing his parents in a horrific attack in Joyner, north of Brisbane has been committed to stand trial.

A Queensland man accused of the brutal murder of his parents in Joyner, north of Brisbane has been committed to stand trial in the Brisbane Supreme Court.

Christopher Puglia appeared neatly dressed in the dock of the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on Monday responding only briefly when spoken to by the Magistrate.

Eight witnesses, including neighbours of 59-year-old victims Loris and Franco Puglia, were expected to be cross-examined in the committal hearing on the gruesome deaths of the Joyner husband and wife.

Magistrate Melanie Ho addressed Puglia directly, with the 31-year-old responding politely to the Magistrate.

Ms Ho read the four charges which included two counts of murder (domestic violence), unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and attempted arson.

Ms Ho asked Puglia if he had anything to say or if he wished to enter a plea.

He simply responded with, “No”.

The couple’s 31-year-old son was arrested in NSW in May last year after he allegedly fled from his parents’ home, just hours after he allegedly used a sledgehammer to deliver a series of fatal blows to the couple.

Puglia’s solicitor Brendan Beavon didn’t address the media as he left the courthouse.

Puglia was charged with two counts of murder (domestic violence), unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and attempted arson.

The case has been committed to the Supreme Court in Brisbane for a date to be set.
