Polo Bears won 9-2, with Bless Daley blitzing her rivals with a five goal performance.

Polo Bears set the wheels in motion with two early girls in the opening minutes to Ali McCarthy and Daley, and by late in the first half led 4-nil.

But Mermaids worked their way into the match with goals to Chloe Barrett who hit and spun, and by Florence Pothecary.

Those two goals reduced the margin to 4-2.

There was a sensational save by Bears’ goalie Millie Bender after Lola Broome took a shot just before halftime.

Just after the break Annabel Livingstone took a long shot that hit the cross bar, and soon after the Mermaids goalie was called on again when Ann Javamilko took a shot that was saved.

Polo Bears then scored the fifth, sixth and seventh goals to break open a see-sawing third quarter.

McCarthy scored her second, Daley skidded in a goal from a penalty and Alexia Rush got on the score sheet.

McCarthy and Daley then added last quarter goals.

Daley, named field player of the tournament, said it was a great team effort by Polo Bears

She said working as a team, passing and having fun was the secret to the team’s success.

Daley said coach Glen Griffith had installed team work into the squad during the campaign.

Griffith added: “It was a great team effort by the girls. What they get out of working as a team is very pleasing for me as the coach.’’

It caps a tremendous season so far by the Albany Creek-based Polo Bears who last month claimed the state title in their age group.
