A disgruntled Telstra customer has superglued his hand to a table inside a service store when he was told his mobile phone could not be fixed, a court has heard.

Peter Neil Bourke, 69, appeared in Caboolture Magistrates Court on August 1 facing one charge of committing a public nuisance.

The court heard that on the morning of July 5 the Moorina resident went into the Telstra store at the Morayfield Shopping Centre to resolve an issue with his mobile phone service.

The court heard Bourke became unhappy when his service could not be fixed and with what he believed to be a lack of customer service.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Shannon Fox told the court Bourke became verbally abusive towards staff and witnesses, who left the business because of his behaviour.

“The defendant then used superglue on his left hand and stuck himself to the table he was sitting at inside, refusing to leave as requested by witnesses and security,” Sgt Fox said.

“Police arrived about 10.30am, locating the defendant with his hand stuck to the table.

“The defendant stated to police that the incident was a reaction to the actions of staff not fixing his mobile phone.”

The court heard police removed Bourke’s hand from the table without injury.

The supporting words of “good on ya” could be heard throughout the public gallery in response to Bourke’s reasoning for his actions.

Self-represented, Bourke didn’t give a submission to the court.

Magistrate Kurt Fowler told Bourke while he understood his frustrations, his actions were not the way to go about it.

Bourke pleaded guilty and was convicted and fined $750.
