CABOOLTURE will be home to one of the biggest police complexes in southeast Queensland.

A new police station and the Moreton district police office will be built at King St next to the cemetery.

The project was first announced in June last year when the State Government allocated $2 million of $7.85 million for a new police station, with $4.8 million in 2017-18 to complete the funding.

Police Minister and state Labor MP for Morayfield Mark Ryan said the police station would cater for the growing population.

Moreton District Officer Superintendent Michael Brady said 160 police and support personnel would move to the new facility.

“The police station will have general duties, a child protection investigation unit, a SCAN (Suspected Child Abuse Network) officer, CIB, a Detective Inspector, a Moreton North Patrol Inspector (and an) Intelligence Office,” he said.

“The current station will be converted into a watch-house and prosecutor’s office.”

Supt Brady said the design should be completed by September, tendering would begin at the end of November and building should be finished by the end of 2018 or early 2019.
