One of Queensland‘s best-known food manufacturers has opened a discount outlet on Brisbane’s northside.

The Golden Circle Pineapple Pantry promises to be a boon for budget-conscious families, with heavy price reductions on top-quality non-perishable goods.

The iconic business announced this week that the Northgate store would be open to staff, local residents and community groups and some selected suppliers.

“The Pineapple Pantry by Golden Circle offers staff, family, friends, local community and related businesses (such as approved suppliers as we determine) the opportunity to purchase select products from our range of brands at a discounted price,” it posted.

It was able to offer big discounts on the products as they were nearing best-before dates, were stock overruns or discontinued products.

“Items in store will vary each week, as products available may be nearing the end of their best before date, the product range has been deleted from supermarkets or they have a surplus of certain products,” they posted on Facebook.

A spokesman for Golden Circle said they opened The Pineapple Pantry as a way to reduce product wastage.

“Each year there are perfectly good products that end up in landfill for many reasons,” he said.

“As part of our commitment to reducing waste we have opened the Pineapple Pantry.

“It’s a direct-to-consumer Golden Circle outlet that offers employees, family, friends and members of the community the opportunity to purchase a selection of these products at heavily discounted prices.”

A separate business called Golden Circle Factory Outlet, at Capalaba and Morayfield, has for years offered damaged items, products close to their use-by date, product overruns or items ono longer being marketed.

It had an association with Kraft Heinz and Golden Circle but was not owned by them.

The Pineaple Pantry, on 264 Earnshaw Rd in Northgate, was hard to miss, thanks to a colourful mural out front.

Customers could shop in-store or online and pick up later between 12pm to 5pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays.
