Three levels of government came together on Monday to announce the project, which will be built on State Government land next to the new Caboolture Police Station on King St.

Longman MP Susan Lamb said Federal Labor would commit $3.5 million to the facility if elected, adding to council’s $2.5 million.

PCYC Queensland CEO Phil Schultz said it was a much-needed project for the youth of Caboolture.

“We are a charity, so for us to spend money on old facilities, that’s a waste of money,” he said. “New facilities means that money goes directly into more services for young people.”

The current Caboolture facility has been on Toovey St since 1982 and was identified as in desperate need of an upgrade following a council review.

It has grown rapidly in the past five years to 1259 members and is projected to hit 2200 by 2028.

Cr Sutherland said council would find money to fund the project regardless of the federal election result.

“(Council’s) been through these battles time and time again and it’s local government’s responsibility to get this across the line,” he said.

“We know there’s other funds we’re going to source to get a facility that’s valued around the $8-9 million mark.

“The staff are working under very tired and adverse conditions.”

Ms Lamb said a new PCYC would create local jobs and provided infrastructure needed for one of southeast Queensland’s fastest growing regions.

The Caboolture Herald contacted the Liberal National Party for a response, but had yet to hear back at time of publishing this story.

Ms Lamb also made a promise to fund $105,000 LED lights for the Caboolture Netball Association as an election promise.
