A suspected ram raid of a tobacco shop north of Brisbane could be linked to a series of break-ins overnight.

Police are investigating a series of break and enters at businesses in the Moreton and North Brisbane District overnight, including an incident where Murrumba Downs tobacco shop was ram raided.

A police spokesman said initial information suggested a group forced entry into a supermarket on Gympie Rd, Strathpine shortly after midnight.

It’s alleged the group tried to steal cigarettes but left empty handed before fleeing the scene in a Holden Commodore station wagon.

The police spokesman said the same group then smashed the glass door to a shopping centre on Gympie Rd around 12.20am, again leaving empty handed.

Around 12.30am, there was a break-in at a supermarket on the corner of Dohles Rocks and Goodrich roads, Murrumba Downs, where the group tried to steal a quantity of cigarettes and again left empty handed.

A short time later, the same car was used to ram into a tobacconist at the same shopping centre complex, where the group allegedly gained entry and stole an unknown quantity of shop goods, including cigarettes and tobacco products.

Police will allege the group fled the scene in the same Holden Commodore.

The police spokesman confirmed no one was injured in any of the incidents, and investigations were ongoing.

Anyone who has any information about the incident or the people involved, is urged to contact police.

On the morning of December 27, locals found pieces of glass scattered across the footpath outside the TSG at Murrumba Downs Shopping Centre around 6am on December 27.

Photos of the damage were posted to Facebook, with locals claiming the incident was not the first of its kind at the complex.

“Liquorland was broken into around the same time last year,” one Facebook user commented.

“The bollards stopped them from ramming the store (Liquorland), but didn’t stop them from smashing the door to pieces to get in.”
