MP speaks out after office and staff abused by anti-vaxxers

A second anti-vaxxer has allegedly vandalised a State Labor MP’s office with racist images less than a week after her staff received death threats and a brick was launched through the window.

New Covid restrictions may be required ahead of Christmas as cases begin to rise

State Labor MP for Pumicestone Ali King’s office has allegedly been attacked by an anti-vaxxer for the second time in week.

Last Tuesday a man allegedly threw a brick through the Bellara office. It followed her staff receiving death threats and vile abuse after the State Government announced tough new vaccine mandates.

At the weekend the office was vandalised again, this time with a swastika spray painted across the very same window which had been smashed previously.

Ms King said she had reported the incident to police.

“I have made a report to police, who tell me that the person responsible for this new damage is likely a different individual to the man charged with the last attack on my office,” Ms King said.

“Less than a week ago, I said our community was better than this.

“Swastikas are offensive and racist to those who have faced actual oppression, and it’s disappointing anyone in our community would do this.

Anyone who is comparing vaccination to the Holocaust is caught up in a dangerous level of conspiracy theory thinking.

The Bribie-Beachmere area has the third highest vaccination rate in Queensland so we know the perpetrator is part of a very small minority.

I’m encouraging vaccination for one reason only – to save local people’s lives when COVID-19 hits our community. These attacks only make me more determined to protect our community from COVID-19 by urging everyone to get vaccinated.

If a Member of parliament speaking up for vaccination makes you this angry or frightened, please pick up the phone to a health professional, don’t pick up a brick or a spray can.

The alleged offender who threw the brick has been charged by police. The man was issued with a notice to appear at Caboolture Magistrates Court at a date in December.

Ms King said she was grateful for the community member who reported the incident and the quick response of local police.
