A court north of Brisbane has heard how a Beachmere man, who was sentenced in 2019 for driving erratically through a crowd of 5000 people, stole fuel and breached his bail.

Jason Daniel Lister, 30, faced Caboolture Magistrates Court on April 14, charged with breach of bail condition and stealing.

The court heard on November 5, 2022, Lister filled up $40 worth of fuel at the Stapylton BP, before heading inside to buy drinks.

Police prosecutor Patrick Carey said Lister denied that he had filled up when asked by staff at the counter and then drove off.

Mr Carey said Lister failed to report at the Caboolture Police Station on February 10 and 13, 2023, which was a condition of his bail that he report to the station each Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

“He reported on February 15 and when interviewed about the bail breaches, he said he was sick and tried calling Caboolture station to let them know,” Mr Murphy said.

“He was told to provide a doctor’s certificate but he said he couldn’t find a bulk billing doctor.”

Self-represented, Lister explained that he couldn’t produce a doctor’s certificate, as he couldn’t find a bulk billing practice in the Beachmere and had no money as he ‘just got out of jail’.

“When I went in there (BP Stapylton) to pay for the drinks, I didn’t actually hear the guy say anything about the fuel,” Mr Lister said.

“I misread it and I’m more than happy to pay for it.”

Previously, Southport Magistrates Court heard on August 28, 2019 that attendees at the May, 2019 Nebo rodeo were forced to jump out of the way of a speeding car, when Lister took his work car without permission and erratically drove through the Nebo Showgrounds.

Magistrate James Blanch convicted and fined Lister, who pleaded guilty, $600 and ordered he pay $40 restitution.

A conviction was recorded.
