A City of Moreton Bay primary school teacher has been jailed for stalking and masturbating in front of students.

Andrew George Ogilvie, 43, will spend the next eight months behind bars for the disturbing offences which involved a number of female students from multiple Moreton Bay schools.

At Ogilvie’s sentencing on Tuesday, June 4, the Brisbane District Court heard how a 14-year-old girl saw Ogilvie in his car as she was walking home from school in late 2021.

Judge Paul Smith told the court Ogilvie gestured for the girl to come closer and then masturbated in front of her.

The court heard Ogilvie, who had been working as a PE teacher at Bellmere State School at the time, concealed his face from the girl with a mask.

Judge Smith said another girl spotted Ogilvie masturbating in his car while she was walking to school on a different occasion.

Ogilvie later stalked the same girl by pulling over in front of her as she walked to school, the court heard.

Judge Smith said Ogilvie also stalked two other students in a similar fashion.

He followed a different 14-year-old student in his car as she walked home on one occasion.

Judge Smith said Ogilvie had been wearing a cap, sunglasses, and a mask – causing the girl to “freak out” and call her mother.

“She was scared and stopped walking home after the incident,” Judge Smith said.

Ogilvie followed yet another girl, aged 12 to 13, in his car on four separate occasions after school.

Judge Smith said the girl became increasingly scared that Ogilvie was going to abduct her.

But she acted “very bravely” on the final occasion by videoing Ogilvie in his car, capturing his number plate.

The court heard Ogilvie was arrested in March 2022 and admitted to doing loops and pulling over on front of children.

He also admitted to masturbating in his car, but denied stalking or exposing himself to students.

Ogilvie pleaded guilty to three counts of stalking, one of indecent treatment of a child under 16 by exposure and one of performing an indecent act in a public place.

The court heard Ogilvie had worked as a teacher for 19 years at different schools before he was suspended.

But he now hoped to pursue a career in the IT industry as the court heard he would never be able to work as a teacher again.

Despite the defence arguing that Ogilvie should not spend any time in actual custody, Judge Smith said the offending was “just too serious”.

He acknowledged Ogilvie’s imprisonment would cause difficulties for his family.

Ogilvie was responsible for homeschooling his 11-year-old son, who had autism and ADHD.

But Judge Smith said the offending was “predatory, protracted and directed at female children”.

He sentenced Ogilvie to two-and-a-half years in jail, to be suspended after serving eight months in actual custody.

Ogilvie was also ordered to serve two years’ probation, starting upon his release from prison.

His 42 days in presentence custody were declared time-served. Convictions were recorded for all offences.
