Moreton Police will focus on speeding, jaywalking and illegal parking in school zones

No school in a police district north of Brisbane will be spared from a crackdown on illegal parking, speeding or jaywalking when school resumes on Monday.
Deception Bay Road Policing Unit officer-in-charge Garth Peake said every officer rostered on would be out patrolling school zones.
Police from Landsborough Road Policing Unit will help patrol schools in Caboolture, Woodford and on Bribie Island.
“There is little leniency, if any for school zone offences,” Senior Sergeant Peake said.
While they cannot get to every school every day, Sen Sgt Peake said the officers would rotate between schools during drop-off and pick-up times each day of the school term.
Officers will issue fines to people parked illegally, speeding in school zones or not crossing the road at designated crossing points.
Sen Sgt Peake said there were issues at the majority of schools in the district.
In Redcliffe the problem schools included Hercules Road State School and Scarborough State School.
“The issues with Hercules Rd, is the backroads. We get a lot of people parking where they shouldn’t park,” Sen Sgt Peake said.
“At Scarborough State School the issue is speeding. It is well signed and a bit of extra care is needed.”
He said the main concern at Moreton Downs State School at Deception Bay was people crossing the road in places they shouldn’t.
At Caboolture Burpengary Meadows State School has issues with illegal parking.
Sen Sgt Peake said Morayfield East State School, St Columban’s College and Morayfield State School were also often problem areas.
