RESIDENTS north of Brisbane will have a new location to set their dogs free while a local council trials a new off-leash dog area for seven months.
Moreton Bay Regional Councillor Peter Flannery (Div 2) said based on requests from residents the council would trial a new dog off leash area along a 1.2km footpath that runs along the foreshore at Deception Bay.
The trial area will be on the footpath along the foreshore between Wallin Ave and Joseph Crescent. Near the existing dog beach.
Residents will be able to let their dogs off the lead from June 25.
“Dog owners regularly contact me seeking more options where they can exercise their dogs so we need to ensure appropriate locations are selected to allow this to occur,” Cr Flannery said.
“Given the foreshore beach area is already dog off the leash, we thought it would be great to extend that area to include the footpath to give dog owners more opportunities of where to exercise their dogs.”
The trial will run for seven months. The dog off leash rule only applies before 8am and after 4pm.
Cr Flannery encouraged residents to have their say on the trial by phoning the council on 3205 0555.
