ONE of Queensland’s largest council’s is tipped to raise its rates by less than 3 per cent when it adopts its budget later this week.
Moreton Bay Regional Council, which encompasses the suburbs of Redcliffe, Caboolture, North Lakes, Bribie Island and Strathpine, is expected to adopt a $622 million budget on Friday.

Last year the council increased its rates by 3.99 per cent.
A council spokesman said this year’s rate rise was tipped to be under 3 per cent.
Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Allan Sutherland said this year’s budget would focus on protecting local lifestyle and growing a strong sense of community.
“This is an exciting period of transformation and we know the need to knuckle down and invest in our lifestyle to make Moreton Bay a 20-minute city where locals can live, work and play all within 20 minutes of home,” Cr Sutherland said.
He said council was expected to approve a $109 million investment into road and transport maintenance across the region.
More than $51 million is expected to be put towards parks and playgrounds and a further $38 million for sport and recreation precincts.
A number of existing projects will also get a boost.
Including the Nathan Rd Sports Complex at Rothwell, Griffin Sports Complex, Burpengary’s soccer precinct, he Caboolture to Wamuran Rail Trail and the Scarborough red cliffs preservation project.
The Budget is expected to be adopted at 1pm on Friday in a special meeting at the Strathpine Council Chambers.
