JUST days out from the election, Moreton Bay councillors will be recalled tomorrow to consider a support package in response to the deadly coronavirus outbreak.

The outgoing Moreton Bay Council will have one last hurrah tomorrow as the remaining 11 councillors — that are not suspended and facing criminal charges — are expected to gather across two separate chambers in two different suburbs to conduct a Special Meeting.

Councils across the state have been somewhat hamstrung by Saturday’s pending election and have found it difficult to provide financial relief to the community while being in a caretaker period.

However, under Section 258 of the Local Government Regulation Act 2012, the council has called a special meeting, driven by CEO Greg Chemello, to vote on a financial support package.

While the exact details have not been release, the support package aims to provide relief to residents, community organisations and businesses in Moreton Bay that are experiencing financial hardship.

The package was also expected to help stimulate the local economy.

The meeting, to start at 3pm, will be live-streamed on the council’s website and through Facebook.

Councillors will be divided between the Strathpine and Caboolture chambers to maintain social distancing.

Check the council’s website for further details.
