A letter from CCC chairman Alan MacSporran to council CEO Greg Chemello, read to the Chamber at today’s council meeting, confirmed the statement.
Though it is not related to the two suspended councillors who are facing criminal charges.
Cr Adrian Raedel still faces one count of official corruption and mayor Allan Sutherland is facing two counts of misconduct in relation to public office.
Both have said they will fight the charges.
Cr Raedel’s charge was mentioned in Brisbane Magistrates’ Court on February 17 and adjourned to March 11.
Cr Sutherland’s matter was mentioned at Brisbane Magistrates’ Court on February 5, and is due back in court on March 23.
The CCC’s timely statement is good news for any current councillor seeking re-election as they can now go to the polls without the baggage of a CCC investigation hanging over their heads.
The CCC on August 2018 began a corruption investigation into allegations relating to the renewal of a Service Level Agreement between the council and Moreton Bay Region Industry and Tourism.
It also investigated whether some councillors, including the mayor, did not disclose and manage conflicts of interests associated with MBRIT.
On February 7 this year, the CCC stated there was not sufficient evidence to prosecute any councillor or staff member and the investigations was closed.
