Moreton Bay childcare centre to double in capacity in rebuild proposal

A Moreton Bay childcare centre could double in size as part of a mega revamp as the details of the proposed rebuild are revealed. SEE THE PLANS

A popular childcare centre north of Brisbane is expected to double in size after plans to demolish and then expand the facility were released.

Manos Projects has lodged an application on December 13 to demolish Sesame Lane Rothwell and rebuild the centre into a new, modern, two-storey centre, at 2 Linthaven Drive.

The proposed works would double the enrolment capacity from 68 to 136 spaces, increase parking spaces from 18 to 48 and the centre would also operate for 24 hours a day.

Sesame Lane, Rothwell is currently a one-storey building, serviced by 18 carparks with the proposed revamp aimed at growing local demand for childcare services.

“The proposal for 24 hour/7 day per week childcare operations, seeks to meet a gap in the current supply of childcare centre services to community, particularly those families where the parents undertake shift work, which includes a range of employment in the trades, manufacturing, warehousing as well as essential service providers such as police, nurses, emergency services etc,” the application reads.

“It is reasonable to expect that childcare services should be available for all working families within the locality not just those who work standard office hours of 8am to 5pm, provided the acoustic impacts on surrounding properties can be adequately managed.

“The proposed design will seek to position the new two-storey building as far as practical away from the adjoining residential development to the southeast.”

The designs for the project show the centre would have three internal play rooms and areas, along with a large outdoor area as well as an allocation for two prep rooms.

Internal and external play spaces will also be rebuilt as part of the revamp.
