A “rude and belligerent” man was “full of grog and bad manners” when he tried to stop police arresting people during an Albany Creek street fight.

Joel Tipene Lassey pleaded guilty at Pine Rivers Magistrates Court to obstructing police.

On August 1, police were called to a street disturbance and attempted to arrest a man involved.

But when they tried Lassey stood between them and stopped police getting to the man.

He was told to move but he refused. He turned his back on police and shook his head.

Police continued to tell Lassey to move but he would not.

He became verbally aggressive towards police and swore at them.

Lassey’s lawyer Brendon Beavon said his client had been attempting to break up a fight during the disturbance.

Mr Beavon said Lassey admitted he was drunk at the time and had been “rude and belligerent” towards police.

Magistrate Trevor Morgan said Lassey was “full of grog and bad manners” on the day.

He was fined $200. A conviction was not recorded.
