A MAN charged with attempted murder over a stabbing at Petrie has been granted bail.

Jayden Michael Barreto, 22, appeared in Pine Rivers Magistrate’s Court today charged with one count of attempted murder

Around 11am on Saturday, police were called to a Young Street address after a 20-year-old man was stabbed in the back during an altercation.

The 20 year old man was transported to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical but stable condition.

The defence counsel said Barreto, who works at a mattress making factory, had been confronted in his house by two men and a violent confrontation broke out.

He stated that Barreto had been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and had been treated in the past by a psychiatrist.

The defence argued that Barreto had strong family support and granting him bail was an acceptable risk, particularly if he continued that treatment.

As part of Barreto’s bail conditions, he must seek further psychiatric treatment and adhere to a strict curfew in which he was not allowed to leave his residence for any reason unless accompanied by a parent.

Magistrate Trevor Morgan said it was appropriate to grant Barreto bail under the circumstances.

He was bailed to appear at Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on July 27.
