Luxury nine-storey apartment block approved for Woody Point foreshore
A SOUGHT after foreshore block of land north of Brisbane will soon become a nine-storey luxury apartment building, despite an unresolved court case with council.

A VACANT block along the Woody Point foreshore will soon become a nine-storey luxury apartment building, despite an unresolved court case with Moreton Bay Regional Council.
The development application (DA) for 16-20 Woodcliffe Cres is directly opposite the Belvedere Hotel bottle shop and next to existing unit complex Point Plaza.
It was originally submitted under the superseded Redcliffe City Planning Scheme in October 2006 and has been granted multiple extension periods during that time.
It has now been approved for a 33-unit building with basement car park (74 spaces in total), rooftop terrace, lap swimming pool, and tennis court.
Each apartment will have an average of 102sq m open space, which is more than double the scheme’s suggested minimum.
In 2016 Council refused an extension on the current DA, which was appealed by owner Ioanna Philippides and is still before the Planning and Environment Court.
But the DA was approved by councillors on September 25 with nine votes for and one against.
A council spokeswoman said the appeal “remains unresolved”.
“Council’s Delegate refused the Request to Extend the Relevant Period as the proposal was inconsistent with the MBRC Planning Scheme by not meeting the General residential zone — Urban neighbourhood precinct as well as Coastal hazard overlay and Flood hazard overlay codes,” the spokeswoman said.
“The appeal does not affect the recent approval of the application that was made during council’s co-ordination meeting.”
There have been multiple changes to building height, setbacks, flood and storm tide immunity and a rooftop cinema was taken out of the original plans to make it more consistent with the planning scheme.
Council received seven properly made submissions against the DA during the consultation period.
One was Ian Matthews who lives at Infinity Blue apartment block on the west side of the proposed development.
“No one is against the development of the site per se,” he said.
“It’s a prime position at Woody Point, it was always going to be developed, but what I focused on was the building height which was higher than existing buildings.
“There were issues with overshadowing and the proposal was close to the existing boundary with the possibility to create a wind tunnel.”
A construction date is yet to be announced.
