LABOR today pledged to build a $17 million urgent care clinic on Bribie Island.

Leader Bill Shorten and Labor Candidate for this month’s Longman by-election Susan Lamb said the clinic would provide medical care and take pressure off Caboolture Hospital’s emergency department.

They said that about 5000 of the 52,000 people who arrived at Caboolture Hospital’s emergency department in 2017 came from Bribie.

Up to 75 per cent of them had conditions which could have been treated in an urgent care clinic.

Labor said the proposed walk-in clinic would be open seven days a week giving improved access to after-hours care.

The announcement outlined that the new clinic would also cut demand on ambulances taking patients to Caboolture Hospital.
