Kyle Peterson: Caboolture South thug jailed for attempted burglary

“Do you remember me motherf*****?”: A Moreton Bay youth bashed a man, then returned after his release on parole as he blamed his victim for his incarceration.

Three days after he was released on parole for bashing a man, a Moreton Bay youth armed himself with a knife and attempted to storm his victim’s home in the dead of night to exact revenge for making the complaint which saw him locked up.

Caboolture South man Kyle Cole Peterson, 21, pleaded guilty on Brisbane District Court on Wednesday to a count of attempted burglary while armed and in company.

The offence occurred about 4.30am on November 2 last year at an address in Caboolture.

The victim of the attempted burglary, a 49-year-old man, was known to Peterson as he had previously suffered at the hands of the defendant.

The court heard Peterson struck the 49-year-old man in the back of the head with an unknown object on August 21 last year.

That, alongside another assault occasioning bodily harm, this one against a 15-year-old girl in the carpark of Morayfield Shopping Centre, saw Peterson sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment, with parole release on October 30 last year.

It took Peterson just three days of freedom for his thirst for revenge to develop.

The 49-year-old was at home with his son when he heard a knocking noise and the sound of two male voices.

He opened the door a crack, at which point Peterson, armed with a knife, lunged at him, saying, “Do you remember me, motherf*****? You locked me up,” the court heard.

The man slammed the door shut in the nick of time and he and his son desperately buttressed the door while Peterson and his co-accused attempted to break it down.

Peterson was arrested on November 3 and has spent the intervening period serving out his existing sentence and on remand for the current offences.

Defence counsel Gavin Webber told the court his client attended a special school, was illiterate, and had not worked since leaving school.

He said his client was addicted to cannabis from 14 and ice from 19 and was using up to a “few points a day” at the height of his addiction.

Mr Webber noted his client was drug-affected at the time of the commission of the offence.

Judge Michael Burnett sentenced Peterson to three months’ imprisonment, all of which he will be required to serve, meaning he will be released from custody on February 16 next year.

He was also placed on two years’ probation.
