TWO-time national motocross champion Jet Alsop is back in action after a horrific crash.

The 12 year old from Ningi broke a leg and fractured an eye socket leaving him unable to ride for 12 weeks.

However, the good news is Jet, who has been nominated for the Bribie Weekly Local Sports Stars Awards, will be racing at Warwick this weekend and then Kingaroy, before the Australian Junior Motocross Championships.

“In April I was injured in training and was airlifted to hospital,” Jet said.

“My good mate and PT Ty Gilchrist got me in the gym doing upper body and core exercises to help keep my fitness while Iwas broken.

“It was really hard in a full leg cast, in a wheelchair, with crutches, but Ty helped me a lot.

“I’m back on the bike now feeling great and ready to take on the Aussie titles again.”

It was at the ‘Aussies’ in Tasmania last year where Jet won the 85cc 9-Under 12 national title and 65cc 11-Under 12 championship.

He also won the 2018 Queensland title and was selected for the Queensland team at the Australian Junior MX Championships.

How to nominate a Local Sports Star

From there he qualified for the 2018 World Junior MX Championships where he finished sixth.

Motocross is in Jet’s family genes with his father, grandfather and great grandfather all racing.

“When I turned three my dad bought me a bike and tought me how to ride,” Jet said.

“I did my first race when I was four and loved it and have been racing ever since.

“I love the challenge of racing, every track is different and the tracks change throughout the day forming ruts, lines and braking bumps so every time you’re out there it’s different.

“I love the feeling of going fast and flying over jumps, travelling around the country meeting new people and making new friends.”

Physical fitness is a huge part of racing motocross. Jet does boxing training, cycling and swimming several times a week before and after school, and trains on the bike two or three times a week.
