A police sting at a known drug hotspot in the Moreton Bay region caught a young mum red-handed with a huge stash of drugs and a mobile phone constantly pinging with messages from users chasing a fix.

Morayfield woman Jennifer Maree Honess, 24, pleaded guilty in Brisbane Supreme Court on Tuesday to six drug-related charges following the October 13, 2020 raid.

They included, most seriously, trafficking in mainly methamphetamine and cannabis, but also MDMA, Oxycodone, Suboxone and Xanax.

The court heard Honess was a visitor to the unit at the time of the search warrant.

Police discovered in her possession a clipseal bag containing cannabis, ice, Buprenorphine, Seroquel and five shortened needle and syringes.

They seized her mobile phone, which the court heard was “constantly beeping” with customers requesting drugs from her.

Meanwhile, other drug users continued to arrive at the unit while police were present but were suspiciously unable to explain why they had gone there.

Analysis of Honess’ phone uncovered 84 transactions over the period from July 27 to October 13, servicing 48 customers.

Crown prosecutor Stephen Muir said her operation was “intensive and fairly sophisticated”, in the sense that she engaged agents to help run her business.

At the time of her arrest, Honess was on parole and subject to three suspended sentences.

Mr Muir said it was an aggravating feature that Honess began trafficking so shortly after her parole order was imposed on May 1 last year.

She was remanded in custody from October 15 and has spent the intervening period, a total of 320 days, in pre-sentence custody.

Defence counsel Daniel Caruana told the court his client had become involved in drugs from a young age and wanted to get clean for her daughter, aged about six.

Justice Thomas Bradley sentenced Honess to four years’ imprisonment, with parole eligibility set at February 28 next year.
