‘I’ll f***ing smash you, you dog’: Drunk’s menacing threats

A court north of Brisbane has heard how a man with 90 criminal convictions, urinated in full view of children in a shopping centre carpark before becoming abusive towards all.

Witnesses at a shopping centre north of Brisbane went running to security, after a severe alcoholic urinated in the carpark and tried to fight onlookers.

Wayne Bradley Holman, 46, of Redcliffe, faced Redcliffe Magistrate Court on January 9, charged with committing public nuisance.

The court heard that on December 8, 2022, police were called to the Peninsula Fair Shopping centre car park next to Dan Murphy’s, after witnesses saw Holman with his penis out, urinating in the car park in full view of the public, including children.

The court heard Holman began yelling and screaming when a witness retrieved shopping centre security.

Police found Holman sitting on a bench in the carpark with an open bottle of wine and other bottles around his feet

Police prosecutor Sheree Wild said security asked Holman to stop drinking in the car park and leave.

“In reply, Holman yelled at the guard ‘f**k off’ and ‘I’ll f***ing smash you, you dog’,” Ms Wild said.

“While police were talking to a witness, Holman became agitated and aggressive towards the witness.

“Holman then stood up and started yelling, attempting to fight the witness.

“Holman also called police ‘f***ing dogs’ when they asked him to calm down.”

Holman’s defence lawyer Jackson Freeman told the court Holman has been a severe alcoholic for 20 years.

Mr Freeman added Holman “goes off the deep end” at the end of each year, when the anniversary of his son’s death approaches.

“He’s very lucky he hasn’t been charged with something more sinister but it does encapsulate how foolish he was that day,” Mr Freeman said.

“If he can abstain from that area of his life, (alcohol) he’s very likely to not be back before this court again.”

Magistrate Paul Byrne sentenced Holman, who pleaded guilty, to 40 hours of community service and recorded a conviction.

“Do you like prison?” Magistrate Byrne asked.

“You’re making it very hard for the court to present you with an alternative.”
